Another Beautiful Makeover

This house was so much fun for me. It was my first complete makeover of a first floor, and the family really just let me go - they were very supportive and very helpful. Wednesday's blog was all about their dining room, this blog is about the living room. The picture below is the family room after. It was hard to capture in a picture, but the home had 20 foot ceilings in the living room and it gave it a bit of a cold feel. So the top half of the room was painted grey (you can kind of see it in the picture) and the bottom half of the room was painted a really lovely buttercream color. since we painted all the railings black we also added a 1/2 round trim between the two colors of the living room. The couches are their old couches, we just added some accent pillows. The coffee table - which I am obsessed with - is new, and the home owner bought all of those fun chatchsky's on it. The wall hangings are new too.

Below are the before pics. You can see that even though it is quite lovely, it is just a bit outdated. I also didn't like where the TV was - it made no sense to me. She said they put it there because they are short - LOL. The home has wonderful bones and beautiful features, so we decided that new paint would make it cozy.

The room was dark with the brown paint and it felt like there was no ceiling. We freshened up the decor and added some fun pillows. We continued the reclaimed barn wood into the living room by putting it above the TV. We added sunshine to the entire room by using a beautiful buttercream color on the lower half of the walls. We made a faux ceiling line by painting the top half of the room grey and adding a black 1/2 round between the two colors. All of the railing in the house was white, and we painted that black too. The fireplace mantle and the trim around the builtin next to the fireplace was painted black as well. Here is the final product......

This is before the wall was painted, you can also see that they are in the process of changing the railing from white to black.

All complete. TV in its proper place.

I can say that the only thing missing are curtains. We had a wonderful plan for curtains, but they decided to move not long after we completed this portion of the make-over. Everything is to scale now, with the faux ceiling. the room and couches feel newer and the whole feel is a very refreshing place to be.

Please contact me if you are in need of some freshening up!
